The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s unwavering commitment to defeating security threats across the country, emphasizing the importance of sustained public support.
During an operational visit to Yobe State on April 10, 2026, General Shaibu met with Governor Mai Mala Buni at the Muhammadu Buhari International Cargo Airport in Damaturu. The visit focused on assessing the security situation and strengthening the morale of troops operating in the region.
Addressing recent attacks on military positions, the Army Chief acknowledged the challenges but maintained that troops remain resolute and undeterred. He highlighted ongoing adjustments in military strategy aimed at responding effectively to evolving threats and consolidating operational gains nationwide.
General Shaibu stressed that the Nigerian Army is continuously adapting to changing security dynamics and called on state governments to deepen their support for frontline personnel. He also praised the government and people of Yobe State for their cooperation, noting that such collaboration is critical to achieving lasting peace.
At the Headquarters of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI in Damaturu, Borno State Governor Professor Babagana Zulum, alongside Senator Ali Ndume, paid a condolence visit following the loss of soldiers in recent encounters with terrorists. Governor Zulum pledged enhanced strategic support for security agencies in response to the shifting threat landscape.
The Army Chief later addressed troops, urging them to remain relentless in their operations, honour fallen comrades, and sustain efforts toward restoring peace and stability.
In a related remark, the Deputy Governor of Yobe State commended the Nigerian Army for its resilience and significant contributions to improving security, while offering prayers for soldiers who lost their lives in service to the nation.
