The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has commissioned the newly renovated Atoshi Recreational Centre in Wukari, Taraba State, as part of efforts to strengthen civil-military relations and support community development.
Represented by Major General Moses Gara, the Army Chief said the project reflects the Nigerian Army’s commitment to fostering cooperation with civilians and enhancing national security through community-focused initiatives. He emphasized the importance of public support in addressing evolving security challenges.
The project was executed under a Special Civil-Military Cooperation initiative led by Major General Maxwell Dangana, who noted that the renovation—of a facility originally built in 1990—aims to build trust and promote unity between the military and the local population.
The Army leadership commended residents of Wukari for their continued support, noting that the upgraded centre will serve as a hub for social interaction, youth engagement, and recreation, thereby contributing to peace and stability in the area.
Also speaking, Major General Etsu-Ndagi highlighted the impact of similar quick-win projects nationwide, while local authorities, including Bala Useni, described the initiative as a symbol of unity and development. He urged residents to sustain collaboration with security agencies.
The commissioning ceremony drew attendance from senior military officers, traditional rulers, and government officials, including Dr Manu Ishaku Adda Ali, underscoring the broad support for initiatives that promote security and community cohesion.
