The Nigeria Police Force has recorded a major operational success in its ongoing fight against organized crime, with the arrest of 50 suspects linked to terrorism, kidnapping, armed robbery, and other serious offenses.
Speaking at a press briefing on April 13, 2026, at the Force Intelligence Department–Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) headquarters in Abuja, police authorities revealed that the arrests followed coordinated intelligence-led operations conducted nationwide since January.
The operations led to the recovery of a significant cache of weapons and equipment, including 17 rifles, an anti-aircraft launcher, over 100 rounds of live ammunition, communication devices, and vehicles used in criminal activities.
Among the key breakthroughs was the dismantling of a 33-member gang involved in terrorism, cattle rustling, and a violent attack on a church in Kwara State. Police also apprehended suspects linked to the killing of three officers in Taraba State.
In the Federal Capital Territory and surrounding areas, operatives cracked down on criminal groups involved in “one-chance” abductions, fake checkpoints, and vehicle burglaries, leading to further arrests and recoveries.
In a related development, a suspect identified as Nasiru Ibrahim was arrested in Benue State with an AK-47 rifle and ammunition. Investigations revealed links to a wanted bandit, with efforts ongoing to apprehend other members of the network.
The Inspector-General of Police reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to national security, stating that several suspects will soon face prosecution, while operations continue to track down remaining accomplices.
