The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced plans to inaugurate its newly elected state executives and chairpersons on May 12, or a later date if necessary, as internal disputes continue to challenge the party’s stability.

In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party maintained that the state congresses were conducted in accordance with its constitution and relevant laws. The ADC described the process as a reflection of its commitment to internal democracy, transparency, and due process, urging newly elected officials to uphold unity and discipline as they prepare to assume office.

However, the development comes amid a standoff with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which has declined to monitor the party’s activities following a Court of Appeal ruling delivered on March 12. The electoral body stated it would not recognize or engage with any faction of the party until the matter is resolved by the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Despite this, the ADC has proceeded with its congresses and is preparing for a national convention scheduled for April 14.

The situation on the ground remains uneven, with reports of parallel congresses in several states, including Ebonyi, Plateau, and Ogun, resulting in the emergence of rival chairpersons. In some cases, factions held separate meetings at different venues, each producing its own leadership.

The internal divisions highlight the growing tensions within the party as it navigates legal battles and organizational challenges ahead of future elections. Observers say how the ADC resolves these disputes could significantly impact its credibility and cohesion moving forward.
