A Message from Barr. Usman Abubakar Yahaya

My dear people of Ankpa, Omala and Olamaboro,

Our constituency is rich in people, land, agriculture and natural resources, yet many of our communities continue to struggle with poor roads, total lack of electricity and water, limited healthcare and educational opportunities, unemployment and weak support for farmers and small businesses.

Our greatest challenge is not the absence of resources; it is the failure to convert our resources and opportunities into sustainable development.

Ankpa’s coal and the wider mineral wealth of our constituency must become an economic opportunity for our people, and not merely resources extracted from our soil.

As a prospective member of the House of Representatives, I will pursue a legislative agenda that places the responsible development of our mineral resources at the centre of our economic transformation.

I will advocate for stronger legislative and regulatory frameworks for responsible mining, environmental protection, community participation, local employment and value addition in mineral-producing communities. I will use motions, Bills, committee oversight and appropriate budgetary advocacy to demand greater accountability from relevant federal agencies and ensure that the interests of host communities are not overlooked.

Our coal should support industrialisation, local enterprise, employment and skills development, while mining communities receive proper environmental protection and meaningful development interventions.

OUR YOUTH

To our young people, I will make skills, education, entrepreneurship, digital opportunities and employment key areas of legislative advocacy. Our natural resources must create opportunities for our young people, not leave them as spectators.

OUR WOMEN

To our women, I will advocate for stronger access to enterprise financing, agricultural support, skills acquisition, markets and federal empowerment programmes. A constituency cannot develop when its women are economically excluded.

OUR ELDERS

To our fathers and mothers who have spent their lives building our communities, I will advocate for greater access to healthcare, social-support programmes and policies that preserve their dignity and wellbeing.

OUR COMMUNITIES

I will use the instruments available to a federal legislator—legislation, motions, appropriation advocacy, petitions, committee work, oversight and constituency representation—to bring the development concerns of Ankpa, Omala and Olamaboro firmly before the Federal Government.

I will not promise to do the work of an executive agency. I will promise to legislate, represent, question, advocate and hold institutions accountable where the Constitution gives the National Assembly that responsibility.

Our constituency has waited long enough for its enormous potential to translate into tangible opportunities.

Ankpa, Omala and Olamaboro deserve representation that turns the voices of the people into legislative action and turns our natural wealth into opportunities for the people.

This is the legislative commitment I am prepared to make.
